MEASURE
We’ll begin with measurements and a silhouette, discuss fit and style to determine our toe shape and any special needs before making the pattern.
Whether you’re a custom shoemaker, design student or aspiring entrepreneur… if you want to make shoes… the Last is first.
CREATE
We’ll be hands on in this class! No 3D scans or printers here… We’ll use measuring tape, power tools as well as hand tools and hard Western Maple to build our lasts ensuring years of use.
CUT
No previous woodworking or power tool use is required but it sure wouldn’t hurt… I’ve been training people on the safe use of these tools for many years.
SHAPE
We’ll use an assortment of power sanders and grinders, hand held rasps, sand paper and scrapers to sculpt your lasts into shape!
SMOOTH, SAND AND VARNISH
Before varnishing your lasts in a non- toxic Polyurethane… we will sand them to a smooth finished state.
LAST!
Not only will your finished lasts be a robust tool for cutting, hammering, nailing and building custom footwear on… they’ll be gorgeous enough to put on display and show off!
